Yurika's Garden of Interesting Things
Writing serves as a powerful outlet for expressing both my emotions and creativity. Many of my poems draw inspiration from literature, such as the 'Ice Queen' poem, which was influenced by the character from 'Narnia'. My work, including short stories and poems, often reflects real-life experiences, like my piece on Shanghai's autumn. The process of writing can be challenging, involving meticulous structuring and frequent revisions of words. This process, admittedly painful at times, ultimately leads to a sense of immense pride upon completion. That rewarding feeling is the reason I am so passionate about writing.
SCENT
When she left,
the weather stayed. A car
parked in wet lot. The smell
of cigarette mist
threw the wooden bathroom door
back-and-forth, back-and-forth. Fog below
barren hills. Season of
near misses, dropped call. Abandoned
dog howls at the fence. The cat
sniffs her empty bed.
She hops off, waiting at the door.
When no one comes, she scratches,
awaiting a certain lavender
or was it vanilla? She wore a sweater.
But she never comes.

MOONCAKES
Piles of round golden mooncakes
Patterns like words in an ancient book
Wedges of glittering pink fruit
Bursting with juice, sweet, sour
Families walk beneath the moon
Round and as bright as a dragon’s eye.
SPRING
The flowers bloom
Releasing the smell of happiness and spring
Releasing the smell of sunshine baking into the petals
The essence of life, the sun warms my toes under the cool
Shade of the pine tree
Birds chirp, reminding us about the arrival of spring
All alone, I lie in the shade of the pine tree
Listening to the rustling of the breeze
Chirping of the birds
The light aroma of the honeysuckle
The silence and calm of the prairie
Where only I own, where only I have peace
A lonely island in the busy, fast paced loud world
A quiet bubble of isolated nature
CAT 2
She was not a typical cat in that her best friend was a dog,
and she was filled with love
For other creatures and hated all destruction.
She loved cooking food
And was an ameowzing mother
